Chatter of MOM 5k Taking 3rd Place! - A Letter from Jaime Kosinski, GLK Founder

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Gwen L. Kosinski Foundation ~ Benefiting Brain Tumor Research, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Village of Sag Harbor, and all of the sponsors, volunteers, and race participants of Saturday's 5th Anniversary Minds Over Matter Sag Harbor 5k. With 529 runners at the line and over 150 volunteers, there is chatter of us now being the third largest 5k on Long Island! This phenomenal group included four brain tumor survivors, and Bob Conneely, twenty-five year high-grade brain tumor survivor and original founder of Minds Over Matter. And to think that approximately 100 pre-registered racers did not show due most likely to inclement weather Friday evening. Wow! What a turnout! We should all feel like running up the stairs of John Jermain Library pumping our fists in the air singing The Eye of the Tiger. Also, thank you for taking part in our big family moment, the exciting marriage proposal of my brother Jack Kosinski to his bride to be, DanaRose Rufino! What a special touch to an already fantastic day! And boy, did they feel like town celebrities for the rest of the weekend.

This race has become a real "grass roots" community event that continues to grow in numbers and spirit each year. Raising continued awareness for brain tumor patients and their families is a footrace GLKF runs every day. It takes an army to pull off this event and my family and GLKF could not do it without your ongoing support and generosity of the time and money you give.

Total donations raised as of 5/11/08 was approximately $18,000. I anticipate a net of over $20,000 when all final donations are counted. In addition, I would like to sincerely apologize for the unanticipated runner timing issue that occurred during Saturday's race. You can now view race results at www.results.island-timing.com/08mom5k.html. Any runner who felt discontent at not having their race time available on Saturday, the GLK Foundation is willing to refund your race registration fee. For reimbursement please send your request via email to mom5k@glkfoundation.org. Medal winners will be receiving their prizes as soon as possible, once age group winners can be organized. Thank you again for your understanding in this matter and for all you do to make this race a great success!

My Deepest Heartfelt Thanks,

Jaime Kosinski
President of The Gwen L. Kosinski Foundation

In December 2007, the GLK Foundation presented the 2nd installment of a $150,000 grant in the amount of $50,000 to researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City. The on-going grant is helping to fund the development of a specific research trial aimed at combating the growth and recurrence of high grade malignant brain tumors.

GLK Raises Over $25,000 at the 6th Annual Golf Outing

The Gwen L. Kosinski Memorial Golf Tournament is the originating fundraiser of the GLK Foundation. Normally held at Noyac Golf Course on Eastern Long Island, there was a change of venue this past September to Fox Hollow Hill Golf Course while Noyac’s clubhouse is under renovation. The GLK outing plans to return to the Noyac track next year. In the tournament’s six years running, approximately $130,000 has been raised.

The Annual Gwen L. Kosinski Memorial Golf Tournament takes place each September at the prestigious Noyac Golf Course on Eastern Long Island. This beautiful fall day begins at high noon with a barbecue lunch at the clubhouse before golfers get ready for a one o'clock shotgun tee-off. On the course golfers compete for closest to the pin, longest drive, shot of the day, and the chance to win a Jeep for a hole in one, sponsored by Mullen Motors of Southold. Drinks and snacks are also served on the course throughout the event. Cocktail hour, dinner, raffle, and auction begins after the rounds are finished. Prizes include NYC show tickets, golf foursomes at several of the most spectacular courses in the nation, and artwork by local East End artists.
